KwaZulu-Natal

This coastal province is home to two of Africa’s largest and busiest seaports. This acts as a catalyst for global trade and makes the region a portal between KwaZulu-Natal and the world. KwaZulu-Natal brings together an international airport, a cargo terminal, warehousing, a retail sector, tourism and a strong agricultural sector. Washed by the warm Indian Ocean waters, this region includes South Africa’s lush subtropical east coast.

KwaZulu-Natal has awe-inspiring landscapes and is easily the number one holiday destination with South African dwellers. This is the only province with a monarchy specifically provided for in the constitution of South Africa.

Known as the Kingdom of the Zulu, KwaZulu-Natal boasts two World Heritage Sites- the Greater St Lucia Wetland Park and the majestic Ukhahlamba- Drakensberg Park. With superb beaches, sunny weather, rolling green hills, relics of the great battles in South African history, this region has numerous ‘must-see’ attractions. The potential to transform the tourism sector in the region into eco and cultural tourism, is a venture with much room for development.

The favourable weather in KwaZulu-Natal give way to several agricultural activities in the region. Some agro-processing opportunities are in soya bean production and processing, sugar-cane based activities, oil products, animal feed and aloe processing. The sector produces sorghum, wheat, dairy, macadamia nuts, tea and several processes around these products. The province seeks to create strategic sectoral development with a focus on the growth of renewable energy generation.

KwaZulu-Natal has a keen interest in the development of innovation hubs that will serve to grow the knowledge economy. An investment in this economy has been identified as most necessary through the development and maintenance of ICT infrastructure.
