North West

The North West Province remains a key contributor to South Africa’s productive economy, anchored by globally significant mineral resources and expanding opportunities in industrial development and regional trade. Known as the country’s “Platinum Province”, it produces a substantial share of the world’s platinum group metals, supporting a broad ecosystem of mining services, processing activities and manufacturing inputs across major centres such as Rustenburg and Brits.

The province is also seeing gradual shifts in its energy landscape, with large industrial users exploring new supply solutions to strengthen operational stability. A notable development is the Doornhoek Solar Power Project near Klerksdorp, a utility-scale facility expected to enhance electricity availability for mining and industrial operations while contributing to longer-term production certainty.

Agriculture continues to provide an important foundation for growth. Diverse climatic zones enable large-scale maize production, livestock farming and horticulture, creating scope for agro-processing, packaging and distribution investments. Strategic transport routes further reinforce market access. The N4 corridor strengthens trade connectivity with neighbouring countries, while the N12 Treasure Corridor supports logistics, tourism and commercial expansion across multiple provinces.

Together, North West’s resource base, evolving industrial capacity and improving infrastructure positioning offer investors a competitive platform for integrated production, supply chain development and regional market participation.
